New York State Inspection

Is it Time for Your NYS Inspection?

New York requires state inspections on an annual basis. The vehicle must pass its test before the current inspection sticker expires (the expiration date is the last day of the month indicated on the inspection sticker). Inspections are also required in response to certain events, such as a transfer in ownership or when a person becomes a resident of the state.

If your vehicle passes the inspection, you will receive a new inspection sticker to display on your windshield. If it does not pass, you will learn what repairs your vehicle requires to comply with state safety and emissions standards.

Ed Vintner is licensed to perform New York state inspections.

How Can I Prepare for the NYS Inspection?

The best way to prepare for a New York state inspection is to practice regular maintenance throughout the year. Follow the service intervals in your owner's manual, and seek a service center at the first sign of trouble. When you don't need to worry about whether your vehicle will pass the NYS inspection, it makes everything easier on you.
